MEDIA RELEASE:  Master Builders welcomes the Government’s move to enact much needed reform to the state’s planning system.

Incoming Executive Director Matthew Pollock said, “For too long the system has been sweating the small stuff, we need the system to encourage investment into sensible new housing developments.

“Housing is unaffordable for too many people. A young family on an average income shouldn’t have to commute for hours to and from work.

“Slashing planning red tape will speed up housing supply. Planning reform is one of the strongest levers that the government can pull and builders will applaud them for doing so.

“More standardising conditions across local councils reduces complexity and will speed up construction.

“The Government deserves credit for taking on a system where unconstrained rules and regulations, unnecessary inconsistencies and duplication is holding builders back from getting on with tackling the housing crisis.”
