SafeWork NSW Engineering team has undertaken a technical review during the development of a Tower Crane Procurement Guideline.

This Guideline was developed as part of an Enforceable Undertaking (EU) between Lendlease Building Pty Ltd and SafeWork NSW. The EU is the outcome of an incident involving a Stiff Legged Derrick Crane positioned on the level 51 roof of the Bangaroo (Tower One) in November 2016. The support grillage for the Derrick Crane buckled while lowering a 3.7t elevating work platform over the edge of the building.

The Guideline aims to increase awareness of tower crane design and procurement and the safety of tower crane operations on construction projects and is written for principal contractors, crane suppliers, clients and other interested parties. It includes prompts for the development of an optimum tower crane technical solution.

The Guideline is currently available through The Crane Industry Council of Australia (CICA) Australia (CICA) website (https://lnkd.in/gSYA8BK)
