Master Builders NSW welcomes the Minns Government's announcement of its framework to boost construction of data centres in NSW and the economic opportunities that will result.

Matthew Pollock, Chief Executive Officer of Master Builders said attracting new data centre investment is fundamental to boosting construction activity and economic growth. “In addition to those data centres already being delivered by our members the NSW Government has 19 new projects worth more than $50 billion in its State Significant project pipeline. This will create thousands of jobs across the supply chain,

“By advancing a nation leading AI Data Centre Policy Framework the Minns Government is sending the clear signal that it supports the massive injection of capital into the economy which AI data centre construction will deliver while setting clear guidelines to maximise the economic opportunity for the community and ensuring that the investment is sustainable, “Enacting a user pays principle to water and energy required by data centres should minimise the impact on new housing construction and result in new investment in the state’s energy and water infrastructure,

“The Government's commitment to streamlined assessment pathways for projects that meet the framework's performance requirements, will provide greater certainty for investment decisions,

“We support the framework's focus on ensuring data centre growth drives additional investment in energy and water infrastructure rather than placing additional costs on households and businesses. This approach provides a sustainable foundation for long-term industry growth and helps ensure critical infrastructure keeps pace with increasing demand,

“As demand for artificial intelligence, cloud services and digital infrastructure continues to accelerate, the construction sector looks forward to working with government, investors and communities to deliver the world-class facilities that will support NSW's future economic growth.
