MEDIA RELEASE:  Master Builders NSW calls on the Greens in the NSW Parliament to immediately cease their obstruction of the Planning System Reforms Bill 2025

Matthew Pollock, Executive Director of Master Builders NSW said, “We want to be represented by parliamentarians who are builders not blockers and for the Greens to get out of the way of reforms which are vital to tackling the state’s housing crisis.

“The Minns Government’s program of microeconomic reform is long overdue. Builders back the government’s political courage in moving to tackle red tape at the local council level, something that has for decades been in the too hard basket for governments of all stripes.

“Builders, home buyers and renters won’t thank the Greens for their political grand standing and obstructing measures to make the planning system more effective and efficient to speed up new home building across the state.

“The Opposition has also shown courage in ensuring that the Bill has bipartisan support.

“The Bill includes important practical measures such as expanding complying development pathways and the scope of projects that would be eligible, a ten-day cut-off period for approval of minor variations after which time they will be deemed to be approved and getting consistency on community participation plans.
“Sydney is losing people of working age to other cities and states because they can’t afford to live here. Planning reform is one of the strongest levers a government can pull to help boost supply and affordability.
“It’s difficult to imagine that the average Greens voter would expect Greens MPs to be blocking measures to bring down the cost of housing.
“The Greens need to do the right thing by the NSW community and stop holding up the commencement of the important measures in this Bill.”
