Fuel levies return as Federal Government discount expires

Members are indicating that suppliers have commenced bringing back fuel levies following the expiration of the Federal Government's temporary fuel excise discount on 3 August 2025 and continuing hostilities between Iran, the United States and othes in the Middle East.

Master Builders' position is that fuel levies must be temporary, justifiable and removed immediately that prices go down.

Prices at the bowser are set to rise again.

The full tax rate returned to roughly 53.7 cents per litre (cpl) , adding an immediate 16-cent-a-litre increase at the wholesale level.

The Federal Treasurer has indicated that the Federal Government is not going to reinstate the fuel excise discount.

Diesel prices are projected to range between $2.30 and $2.60 cpl in the immediate term placing heavy pressure on transport costs.
