The Federal Government’s announcement of a Fair Work Court risks raising costs and complexity for thousands of construction industry employers.

Master Builders NSW Executive Director Matthew Pollock said, “The Fair Work Court will be another back to the future industrial relations change by the Federal Government which could increase red tape which is strangling productivity in the construction sector and across the economy.

“The original Industrial Relations Commission Court was abolished nearly 30 years ago because it duplicated existing jurisdictions. While we do not have all the details, Master Builders is concerned that bringing it back under the Fair Work banner will add yet another layer of process for employers when the existing courts have the capability and experience to deal with industrial matters without the risk of ideological bias.”
