Master Builders NSW welcomes the passing of the Minns Government’s Building (Approvals and Practitioners) Bill 2026, which enacts nation leading measures to fast-track the construction of new homes, improve consumer protections and support the construction sector.

“The passage of this Bill will deliver a streamlined approvals process that will cut costs, reduce delays and enhance the viability of new housing projects, enabling the industry to get on with constructing more new homes,” said Matthew Pollock, Executive Director of Master Builders NSW.

“Providing a framework that brings Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) into the mainstream and gives consumers, builders and investors greater confidence will create more opportunities for builders to deliver new homes faster in a controlled environment.

“The Minns Government’s reforms get the balance right between improving consumer protections, lifting quality and fast-tracking approvals,

“The enhanced mandatory dispute resolution scheme, which requires disputes to go through the scheme before proceeding to a court or tribunal, is vital to strengthening confidence in the industry and is strongly backed by Master Builders,

“A process that requires fair assessment of defect claims will deliver significant benefits for consumers and homeowners by ensuring building disputes are addressed earlier, faster and at a lower cost,

“In many cases, the costs of litigation far outweigh the cost of rectifying legitimate building defects,

“Master Builders commends the Minns Government for its collaborative approach and commitment to reforms that streamline approvals, cut red tape, strengthen the regulatory framework, and recognise the practical realities of delivering new housing projects,” Matthew Pollock said.
