The Noble, Bradman & Messenger Stands at the Sydney Cricket Ground seats 13,000 patrons and this project increases the capacity of the SCG to 48,000 spectators. The concrete framed structure consists of a basement and levels one to five. Included in this stand, amongst numerous features, are two main food courts with multiple food and beverage facilities, 600 person multi-use function room, new press and media boxes, high class corporate suites, dismantling, refurbishment and re-installation of two lighting towers, underground connection to Allianz Stadium and upgrade of external works.
Major earthworks, heritage issues and staged handover difficulties caused delays early in construction which were overcome with detailed scheduling and negotiation.
A feature of this complex is the roof structure. The design was altered to ensure all steel components were sourced within Australia. The design and methodology for the erection of the steel, the roof and the method for fixing soffit linings to the roof were key to the project’s successful completion.
A W Edwards has finished the building to a very high standard indeed.
