Alterations and refurbishment of the existing H245 aircraft hangar to enable the servicing of a variety of aircraft required detailed planning and presented the builder with unique construction difficulties. These included the location of this site within an operational International airport as well as severe restrictions on security, material storage and vehicle access which required that the building sequencing and staging was planned around the operational and curfew requirements. Due to the size of the existing building a number of the trades were able to work concurrently.
Works included modification to the existing mezzanine floor for new adjustable aircraft docking structures as well as structural alterations to allow the removal of existing steel columns and major upgrades of the electrical and fire services. Existing mass flow air pipe works was extended through a new services trench/pit cut though the existing floor slab. The external cladding was replaced and painted and signs written with corporate colours and logo.
The hangar floor and mezzanine floors were repaired and coated with white Skydrol resistant epoxy flooring. The internal wall and roof surfaces were cleaned and painted white which has transformed the entire work place environment.
