This project involved major alterations and additions to the existing Clare Hotel and administration building. Construction included demolition, excavation, services and high-quality fitout to 62 rooms, offices, back-of-house areas, common areas, rooftop pool and restaurants. Works were undertaken with limited and shared construction access with a number of adjacent unrelated construction works. The external envelope and a number of heritage rooms were required to be retained. These needed extensive temporary propping and the retained heritage room was similarly supported and protected as the works below were completed. Basement structure was progressively reinforced to suit the new structure. Old flooring was used as formwork and existing columns were retained as temporary props to minimise costs and time. This is a project with exceptional quality that successfully combines the qualities of heritage and modern facilities.
