This fit-out of laboratory benches and shelving and associated works could never compete for the quality of its joinery with very up-market offices and restaurants but is worthy of a merit award for the extreme constraints, site conditions and construction challenges which were encountered by the Fugen team.
Undertaking construction works in an operating medical research environment provided numerous challenges. Noise, vibration and dust were major issues as any minimal alteration to a laboratory environment could damage an experiment or test which may have been in progress for many years.
Under these constraints, new partitioning and vinyl and carpet flooring and refurbished benches were installed. Upgrading and reconfiguring of power, lighting and data systems, hydraulics, air conditioning and fire sprinklers was achieved.
An outstanding result was achieved in the most difficult conditions.
