FDC delivered a technically complex façade at Macquarie University’s Engineering Innovation Building, integrating 11 different façade systems across the new five-storey building, triple-height Forum, Conduit link bridges and retained existing structure. The extensive use of glass, including a faceted curtain wall and distinctive glazed roof, required meticulous design coordination and careful consideration of each space’s technical and operational requirements. The façade design underwent performance testing overseas, followed by a visual mock-up inspection in Malaysia with Macquarie University and on-site mock-ups for final client approval. Early engagement with façade and waterproofing specialists ensured buildability and durability, while detailed shop drawings and carefully sequenced installation using tower cranes, Maeda cranes and perimeter scaffolding helped achieve a high-quality finish. The completed façade is a defining feature of the building.
