he Project comprised of the refurbishment of the existing storage facility at the Art Gallery NSW, undertaken whilst the Gallery continued to operate open to the public. Over 10,000 patrons were accommodated each day, whilst the complex excavation and penetration works were undertaken.
The scope of the work comprised of the following;
•    Excavation removal of 450m3 of rock and existing substructure. The work included new concrete footings, structural steel underpinning columns and beams.
•    A large penetration was formed in the slab between lower level 2 and the level 1. This allowed for the installation of the new structural steel and travertine staircase.
•    Glazing details, acoustic panels, timber flooring and the travertine stone were matched with the existing Gallery finishes. The materials being carefully selected to provide consistent yet modern new Gallery space.
The project was completed on time, with many areas being handed over ahead of schedule. A combination of day and night shifts were utilized to minimize disruptions to the Art Gallery.
