The Galuwa Recreation Centre involved the design finalisation and construction of a contemporary sporting and community facility supporting a diverse range of recreational, cultural and social activities.
The centre features four indoor multi-sport courts, including two show courts with spectator seating and an integrated performance stage. Four outdoor courts, flexible program spaces, function areas, meeting rooms, commercial kitchen, bar, outdoor dining and a 243-space undercroft car park complete the facility.
Constructed on a narrow site between an operational golf course and River Road, restricted access required detailed logistics planning and a carefully managed west-to-east construction sequence. Unforeseen ground conditions, existing services and a 6m-deep sewer line within the water table required significant resequencing and structural redesign.
Despite these challenges, construction progressed while the golf course remained operational. Through strong planning, coordination and adaptability, the project was delivered to a high standard, creating a versatile facility for the local community.
