A career in carpentry is a strong choice as Australia’s population continues to grow, the building and construction industry needs more qualified carpenters to keep up with housing demand.

Master Builders Apprenticeship Services and Master Builders Education and Skills Development have developed a unique program for people over the age of 21 years to start an apprenticeship to become a trade qualified carpenter as part of an accelerated program.


Follow these 3 steps to a career in construction:

STEP 1 Commencement Training (2-week training program)
STEP 2 Commence carpentry apprenticeship with Master Builders Apprenticeship Service
STEP 3 Apprentice Training (2 - 2 ½ year minimum)




Commencement Training is a compulsory 2-week training program to establish basic carpentry skills, safety training as well replicating physical and practical hands on-site skills. The program will undertake units of competency towards the CPC30211 Certificate III in Carpentry trade qualification. The program includes 3 important Safety training courses:

  • Manual handling
  • Work safely at heights
  • Safe use of power tools.



The next step is commencing the employment part of the apprenticeship with Master Builders Apprenticeship Service and placement with a Master Builders Training Employer.



During the apprenticeship, a Master Builders Adult Apprentice will attend our Education Centre at 5 Burbank Place, Norwest NSW every 7-8 weeks participating in block release formal training over 2-4 days, or as set by Master Builders Education and Skills. Formal training will involve completing course assessment and practical units to achieve competency in all units of CPC30211 Certificate III in Carpentry.

A Master Builders Adult Apprentice who has met the requirements for all units of competency within CPC30211 Certificate III in Carpentry can apply for early completion of their apprenticeship contract under Competency Based Completion.

Each application for Competency Based Completion is reviewed in consultation with the Master Builders Training Employer, the adult apprentice and Master Builders Apprenticeship Service. If all parties agree that the apprentice is suitably qualified and experienced, the apprentice can complete their apprenticeship contract. Completion of the apprenticeship can be achieved within a minimum of 2 - 2½ years for the right candidate.



Ideal candidates for our Adult Apprenticeship Commencement Training Program will have:

  • Building and/or construction experience
  • Strong passion and willingness to work hard
  • General Construction Induction Card (White Card)
  • Driver's licence and reliable transportation
  • Meet the criteria to commence an Australian Apprenticeship Contract
  • Strive to achieve their goal of a carpentry trade qualification (CPC30211 Certificate III in Carpentry).

  • General Construction Induction Card (White Card)

Once this process is completed and you meet the criteria, a Master Builders Apprenticeship Services representative will contact you regarding the Adult Apprenticeship Commencement Training Program.
