The Fair Work Commission has determined that minimum wage rates will be increased by 3.5 per cent, with effect from 1 July 2018.
This means a $24.30 a week pay rise to $719.20 a week for those on the minimum wage. The hourly rate will be $18.93 for more than 2 million people across Australia
Apprentices pay will increase in accordance with the relevant percentage of the trade rate of pay. As part of its Annual Wage Review, the Fair Work Commission has also increased expense related allowances.
This review, taking into account movements in the Consumer Price Index, also increases award allowances from the beginning of the first full pay period to commence on or after 1 July 2018.
A range of other allowances that are linked to wage rates in Modern Awards will adjust automatically to reflect the higher wage rates effective from the beginning of the first full pay period to commence on or after 1 July 2018.
In cases where employers pay over award payments, these arrangements can continue, subject to the minimum standards being satisfied.
Master Builders have commenced preparing new wage circulars for the suite of Modern Awards that generally apply to its members. These wage circulars will be progressively emailed to members and posted on Master Builders’ website.
