31 December 2017 signals the end for the transitional period for the BASIX energy targets

Home buyers wishing to take advantage of the lower pre-July energy targets under the transitional arrangements will need to apply for a BASIX certificate before 31 December 2017.

After this date, the lower pre-July 2017 targets will no longer be available and all new homes and units will be subject to the energy targets introduced on 1 July 2017.

Projects that have been granted access to the pre-July targets on the basis that there is a pre-contract agreement in place will need to finalise and sign a qualifying building contract no later than 31 December in order to be eligible to use the lower pre-July targets.

Only those projects with a valid ‘pre-July’ certificate lodged with the consent authority, or subject to an existing DA or CDC, can be revised using the pre-July targets. Projects commenced under the pre-July transitional arrangements that are subsequently unable to meet the eligibility requirements, and any qualifying project for which a certificate has not been generated and lodged with the consent authority by 31 March 2018, will need to be revised to meet the new targets.
